GRANDPARENT'S RIGHTS

The state of Georgia recognizes the grandparent-grandchild relationship as an important one. Grandparents have the right to seek visitation through the courts when it is not available to them otherwise. Such a case may occur when one parent is not allowed visitation with the child or one parent is deceased.

We are committed in assisting grandparents in establishing their rights, including child custody, visitation and guardianship. Grandparents may file an action against the custodial parent to seek visitation with their grandchild. However, a grandparent cannot intervene when the grandchild is living with both biological parents as a family unit.
